I am currently reading his "La Belle France: A Short History" also well written and very readable. Adam Gopnik's "Paris to the Moon" is an entertaining (and occasionally infuriating) series of essays. In no way could it be called a history of Paris. I have not read Colin Jones' book, though it is on my list.
